According to Packaging Digest Oct. 3, Absolut Unique, a limited edition of nearly four million uniquely designed and individually decorated bottles, has been created at a glass plant in Limmared, Sweden, by manufacturer Ardagh Group.
Each bottle has a different color coating and pattern and a unique label number. The process that made this possible, as explained by Fredrik Källqvist, development manager glass, involved developing a computerized system tht continually changed colors and spray patterns and that randomly added contrasting color splashes to each bottle.
“We further introduced new functionality on the screen printing machine for randomising the print start for each printing station in the machine. We also created a screen and color changing scheme for the screen printing process balancing variation and productivity, and established systems to mix the bottles during and in between the process steps to further increase variation,” said Källqvist.
