Leo Burnett, J. Walter Thompson Tops in 1996

Looking at the past can be fun. As we gather entries for our 40th competiton year, we went looking at the way we were. It was a trip into the many heavy hitters that have been among Mobius’s winners.

For example, in our 25th year, Leo Burnett picked up 16 awards, including nine statuettes for Television, one for Radio and the remainder in Print.  The awards represented work done by offices in Chicago, Toronto and Singapore.

Best of Show for television that year went to an entry from J. Walter Thompson, Atlanta. “Transformation,” a commercial for the U.S. Marine Corps about perseverance through adversity, was directed by Hugh Hudson of Hudson Film, London. Animation was created by animators Chris Knott and Eric DeBoer at Passion Pictures, London; Michael Lollis was creative director. The spot set a record, with six first-place awards in various categories.
