Looking at the past can be fun. As we gather entries for our 40th competiton year, we went looking at the way we were. It was a trip into the many heavy hitters that have been among Mobius’s winners.
For example, in our 25th year, Leo Burnett picked up 16 awards, including nine statuettes for Television, one for Radio and the remainder in Print. The awards represented work done by offices in Chicago, Toronto and Singapore.
Best of Show for television that year went to an entry from J. Walter Thompson, Atlanta. “Transformation,” a commercial for the U.S. Marine Corps about perseverance through adversity, was directed by Hugh Hudson of Hudson Film, London. Animation was created by animators Chris Knott and Eric DeBoer at Passion Pictures, London; Michael Lollis was creative director. The spot set a record, with six first-place awards in various categories.
‘Chugs’ Won Packaging at 27th
Best of Show award in the packaging category of the 27th annual Mobius Awards went to Milk Chugs. The single-serve high-density polyethylene bottles created for Dean Foods Co., Franklin Park, Illinois, was designed by Wencel/Hess, Chicago.
AA’s ‘Europe’ Took 1994 honors.
In 1994, at an event held at Fairmont Hotel, Chicago, 216 awards were presented in various categories, including 97 awards for television commercials, 92 for print ads, 17 for radio and 10 for package designs.
“Best Of Show” for commercials went to the Danny Ducovny-directed “Europe” for American Airlines out of Temerlin McClain Advertising, Dallas/Ft. Worth. The spot also took top honors in the travel/transportation category.
